The Challenge
Port St. Lucie is home to thousands of veterans who have served our country, a growing senior population seeking to age in place, and families looking for a safe, welcoming community to call home. Yet many of these residents face challenges accessing the services and support they need. Veterans often struggle to navigate federal benefits and find local support networks. Seniors need accessible transportation, healthcare resources, and opportunities for social connection. Families need safe spaces, quality recreational facilities, and programs that bring generations together.

Steven's Plan
- Veterans Resource Center - Establish a centralized veterans resource center to help veterans access federal benefits, connect with local services, and find employment opportunities. Partner with the St. Lucie County Veterans Services Division to bring services directly to PSL residents.
- Expanded Senior Transportation - Work with the St. Lucie County Council on Aging to expand the Senior Rides program, providing more accessible transportation options for medical appointments, grocery shopping, and social activities.
- ADA Accessibility Improvements - Prioritize sidewalk repairs, curb ramps, and crosswalk improvements in neighborhoods with high concentrations of seniors and residents with disabilities. Ensure all city facilities meet or exceed ADA standards.
- Intergenerational Programs - Create programs that connect seniors with youth through mentorship, skill-sharing, and community service projects. Partner with local schools and senior centers to facilitate meaningful connections across generations.
- Family-Friendly Parks Initiative - Invest in park upgrades that serve multiple generations, including accessible playgrounds, shaded seating areas, walking paths, and picnic facilities. Add more all-abilities playgrounds so children of all capabilities can play together.
- Nonprofit Partnership Network - Build stronger partnerships with organizations like the Council on Aging, Alzheimer's Association, and local veterans groups to streamline access to resources and avoid duplication of services.
- Caregiver Support Programs - Recognize the vital role of family caregivers by offering respite programs, support groups, and educational resources for those caring for elderly or disabled family members.
Why This Matters
Our veterans sacrificed for our freedom. Our seniors built the community we enjoy today. Our families represent Port St. Lucie's future. When we support these groups, we strengthen the entire fabric of our city.
Veterans who receive proper support transition successfully to civilian life and become community leaders. Seniors who can age in place maintain their independence and continue contributing their wisdom and experience. Families who feel supported put down roots and invest in our community's future.
This isn't just about services, it's about honoring our values. In Port St. Lucie, we take care of our own.
